Happy Weekend!

Okay, not necessarily that happy at the moment. Once again I put too much faith in Costco to get my meds ready for me the day I needed them. (I've been spoiled by the U Village Bartells.) Thus, I spent the latter part of yesterday going through the beginning of withdrawals, had cold sweats through the night and can barely function at the moment. I have been told these withdrawals are roughly what heroin addicts go through. Cool. Not. Everything is supposed to be ready at 1:00, but knowing Costco it won't be. I'm waiting on them so I can go in to work and work a few hours today to A) catch up on a big stack of backed up items and B) make extra money for taxes.

In the meantime I'm going to run to Rite-Aid (where I'm going to switch my presrciptions to) to buy hair color. Yes, HAIR COLOR! As in, I've been coloring my own hair. CAN YOU BELIEVE IT? I have been using Garnier Herbashine, a semi-permanent color that lasts about two weeks and contains bamboo extract which is supposed to strengthen hair. You saturate your hair in the color, leave for ten minutes, then rinse out using a conditioning mask. It's ridiculously simple and has lessened my fear of at-home hair color.

I started with a color that took me slightly darker than my natural color (out of fear), then moved to a shade lighter the last time. Today I'm going one more lighter. It will most likely be the lightest I go.

I read reviews in magazines, scoured opinions on the internet, and ultimately decided to take the plunge simply because I can't afford to get highlights right now. I am hoping I can afford to go in for 50% off Aveda highlights (I have a coupon!) after my April 23 paycheck at a really great salon, but we'll see. In the meantime this is at least keeping my roots colored.

I used to be on a schedule of highlights every 8-10 weeks with full color in between to cover my roots. The full color alone would cost at least $50 without a tip, so the $10 every other week is an improvement. Once tax season is over I'm hoping to alternate full highlights at a salon with at-home color. It will save money, make me feel much more resourceful, and save hours at a salon!
